In racing this weekend we have a few athletes jetting to different part of the country with two Championships taking place. In Perth we have Jonney Yeates, Kat Henderson and Paul Burns taking part in the UCI 2016 Gran Fondo World Championships. Paul is taking on both the TT on Thursday and road race Sunday with Kat and Jonney focusing on Sunday’s race. We wish them all the best come race day.

On the Sunshine Coast we have Dan Weekes racing the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Mooloolabah. Knowing this course inside out he was feeling very relaxed yesterday and very excited to get out there and give it a very solid nudge. Have a cracking race Dan and we will be watching out for your result.

ST MICHAEL’S SWIMSMany thanks for your understanding in regards to the unfortunate suspension of St Michael’s swims sessions. Your feedback both, positive and negative, is very important to us. We need this to know what our athletes are thinking/feeling, as well as allowing us to plan for improvements to your services, and to be able to communicate and clarify as effectively as we can moving forward. We do apologise for the short notice of this recent announcement and the fact that some athletes did not receive the notification in sufficient time.
Why? The suspension of the St Michael’s sessions was not an easy decision but has been made as a business decision, based on the recent and current numbers attending. It is understandable that athletes choose to participate in less-regular training over the winter period, but this makes a bigger impact on the already smaller sessions. And as such, this impact has made it nonviable to continue in the short term. Rest assured, swim sessions will return to St Michael’s on Monday 24th October, in conjunction with our first Try-the-Tri program.
The St Michael’s swims were initially created on the timetable as a stepping stone; for athletes to work on their technique and build their swimming skills, to then be able to progress to sessions at MSAC. This has been a great success with many who now swim at MSAC, originally beginning their swim training with the St Michael’s squad.
During the next 2 months, ALL swimmers are welcome at MSAC sessions on a Monday evening 6:15pm and Wednesday mornings/evenings in September, where 2 x coaches take the sessions that require 3 lanes. Sessions can be modified and adapted at the time to suit athletes, so please don’t hesitate to have a chat with a coach if needed. Please do check the timetable as there is some maintenance at MSAC in September meaning some evenings are not available, but we have extra capacity in the morning.
UPCOMING SWIM SESSIONS:
Wed 31st Aug – MSAC 730pm
Mon 5th – MSAC 615pm indoor pool
Wed 7th – MSAC 545am outdoor pool
Mon 12th – MSAC 615pm indoor pool
Wed 14th – MSAC 545am outdoor pool
Mon 19th – MSAC 615pm indoor pool
Wed 21st – MSAC 545am outdoor pool
Wed 21st – MSAC 730pm indoor pool
Mon 26th – MSAC 615pm indoor pool
Wed 28th – MSAC 545am outdoor pool
**Friday morning swims are also running as normal through this period for all intermediate/advanced swimmers at 545am.
Again, thanks to those who have been in touch in regards to this matter and please do continue letting us know your thoughts on this and other aspects across the squad. This is your squad and we want it to be the best for you.

TUESDAY RUNS – From next Tuesday (6th Sept) all MSAC Tuesday morning runs will commence at 545am. Volume is increasing as we get closer to racing so ensure you set that alarm slightly earlier. |

MSAC MAINTENANCE IN SEPTEMBERThe MSAC pools are undergoing some maintenance in September so some of our Wednesday evening sessions will not be running – we will however have additional space on a Wednesday morning so you can still get your swim in. Apologies for the inconvenience this may cause but it is unfortunately beyond our control. Please check the timetable for full session times and details. Please can athletes arrive on time and be ready for the start of each session. If you miss the beginning you may miss important information regards the session, the warm-up and briefing. This can also disrupt other athletes who have arrived on time and begun their session already. Please do ensure you check the timetable and our Victorian Facebook Page for training sessions and updates. |
