WORD FROM THE COACHES
Ahhhhh recovery week. A big welcome for most athletes as volumes in the program have started increasing and a big number competed in Run Melbourne on the Sunday. So make sure you allow your body to ADAPT to the past couple of weeks training by having easy/ier sessions and getting extra rest and recovery. Always seek coaches advice if you are concerned about your recovery.

Over the last 4 days Tri Alliance have had the pleasure of having Head Coaches Mark Turner and Suzanne McCarthy from our Tri Alliance QLD squad in Melbourne. Some of you got the chance to meet them during their time here and if you didn’t you will certainly get to in the next few months – especially if you are heading to Noosa or Busselton to race.

We have had a jam packed few days at Tri Alliance which included our Tour de France Party on Saturday Night where Tri Alliance  helped raise over $1400 for the ‘Ride to Conquer Cancer’ and in doing so we had a few athletes lucky enough to grab some great prizes, well done to the following who secured themselves some great prizes:
Simon Gronow – Monza Single Speed Bike
Andy Wood-rich – Orca Wetsuit
Adam Donati – Orca Helmet
Darren Schonewille – Sports Nutrition Prize Pack
Congratulations to our prize winners and thanks to everyone for making the night a great success!

Sunday rolled on and we had Run Melbourne (wrap up below) and all our Coaches attended a Coaches WorkShop on planning, planning and more planning for the up coming season. So stay tuned for further initiatives and plans for the coming months.

Last Night we also held a Long Course Seminar at TAHQ@Bikelab with a fantastic turnout from our Long Course crew. Athletes were provided with tools, knowledge and information to assist them in their individual preparations and training for their Half or Full Ironman Races. We also welcomed a new athlete to our Team – Female Pro Athlete Renee Lane. ‘Laney’ has won multiple Sprint and Olympic Distances Races nationally and internationally and competed in her first Ironman last year in New Zealand and is prepping for Busselton in December where we hope to get a great result. You will be seeing more of Laney over the coming months.

WELL DONE TO THOSE WHO COMPETED IN RUN MELBOURNE!
Well done to each of our athletes who competed in the 5km, 10km and Half Marathon Events on Sunday at Run Melbourne. We had loads of athletes running with some great run times for this time of the season. These results are very pleasing for our coaches and we can’t wait  to see athletes continue to develop over the coming months. Tri Alliance had a big presence in The Age also – with numerous pictures including a sneaky Tri Alliance Tee or Singlet!
Some noteable achievements include:
Chris Dixon – 1:26:38 Half. With a footy umpiring background and run sprinting, we know Chris still has a lot more to give. A great first hit out at the Half.
Lisa Dominquez – 1:29:11 – Lucky enough to have her own pacer, she came away with a very solid result to break the 1hr30min barrier
Adam Murone & Daryl Clemson – both had super runs coming in at 1:31min
We have another half a dozen athletes breaking 1hr 40min and Pam rounded up the field to complete her first Half Marathon in just under 2.5hrs AND made The Age Newspaper.

In the 10km events we had some slick times lead out by two of our coaches, Head Coach in Brisbane Mark Turner posting the fastest TA time of 36:48min 6th Age Group. Not a bad hit out as he builds for IM Busso. And Coach Sarah posting a PB of 37:22 3rd female overall and a good confidence booster leading into the Half IM world Champs. Geoff Taylor continues his solid form knocking out a 38:49 and landing on the podium for 3rd in his age group also. And just about every other athlete who completed the 10km reached a PB along with Wendy Wates who completed her very first 10km run also and was super super happy!

We had Maria Strong in the 5km event who was wrapped with her result and as a bonus she found out yesterday she has been invited  to the ‘Road to Rio’ Paralympic Development Camp at the AIS in Canberra. Well done Maria.

With  Run Melbourne done and dusted now, we have a small number of athletes who are prepping for Sandy Point Half in 5 weeks and then MELBOURNE MARATHON in just over 12 weeks. Keep reading if you are planning on entering these events.

MELBOURNE MARATHON TRAINING – STARTS NEXT WEEK!
If you are competing in an event at Melbourne Marathon – including the 5km, 10km Half or Full Marathon we ask for you to complete the following survey. This survey will help us ensure athletes receive the correct run program, support and guidance leading into these events. Further communication will be sent out Monday next week to those who complete this survey. If you do not complete this survey then you will not receive information. CLICK HERE to complete the survey

JOHN CORNISH TRIBUTE RIDE & POST RIDE BREAKFAST
Some of you would be aware that this weekend marks the 1 year anniversary of John Cornish’s passing. A great Coach, mentor, role model and friend of the Tri Alliance Team, sadly John was taken way from the Tri Alliance family and his own family far too soon in a tragic cycling accident on Beach Road Melbourne on Friday 22 July 2011. His passing left the Tri Alliance family and the wider triathlon and cycling community in deep shock. However, his life will never be forgotten and his memories will forever live on with us. Click here to read more…

This weekend there will be mixed emotions from athletes, friends and family during this time so we ask for you to keeping this in mind over the next few weeks, we ask for you to look out for each other and reach out for a hand should you need.

This weekend we want to Celebrate the Life of ‘JC’ so we have organised a Tribute Ride as part of our weekend group ride, details below:

John Cornish Memorial Site in Brighton
For those who are concerned/interested we have been in contact with Bayside City Council and VicRoads regarding a permanent memorial at the site for JC. We are currently in communications with the Council regarding this, however you should be aware that the Ghost Bike will be removed by Tri Alliance at 6pm this Sunday 22 July. We encourage you to visit the site prior to this if you would like to leave flowers/tribute or the like at the site. We will ensure these remain after the Ghost Bike is removed. Tri Alliance in consultation with his family will then decide on a place for this bike to rest (ie TAHQ@BikeLab)
Rest in Peace JC.

(DO NOT SCROLL PAST HERE WITHOUT CLICKING ON THE ABOVE LINK!!)

SWIMMING….
With busy lanes at MSAC it is important for all athletes to request feedback from coaches if they are concerned about their technique/stroke. Coaches strive to observe all swimmers and correct their technique faults however with larger numbers this becomes more difficult. Coaches are here to educate and assist athletes in developing a competent swim technique and reaching their potential

No questions are right, wrong too big or small – so if you feel you need some additional feedback don’t hesitate to ask one of our experienced coaches, they are more than happy to help out.

LONG COURSE CAMP – ONLY 1 PLACE NOW REMAINS!
We have just one spot that remains for our Long Course Camp. So if you missed out or are having second thoughts of coming along make sure you email [email protected] immediately to reserve yourself one of the last two places. NISSAN K’S FOR COUNTRY KIDS – SUPPORT MARK IN HIS RIDE TO SUPPORT KIDS
Tri Alliance Athlete – Mark Keogh is embarking on a 260km journey to raise money for the Wonder Factory within the QLD Royal Childrens Hospital and is looking for people to help reach his fundraising goal!
“OK, straight up, I need your help. I have committed to the NISSAN K’s for Country Kids 260km Cycling Event in rural QLD next month. The event is a fundraiser for the Wonder Factory within the QLD Royal Childrens Hospital, which provides terrific support to sick Queensland kids and their families who are doing it tough. Please check out the website link and get further information on this great cause.
Here is how you can help me. I need to be sponsored. I have a mandatory fundraising commitment of $1500 but as most of you would know I want to overachieve…I want $5000.
So, I ask you to make a donation via the following weblink asap, any amount will do but please be generous. I promise to provide photo evidence of me riding around rural Queensland, so even if you are not moved by the cause, consider the pain and suffering I will be going through and you can extract enjoyment and value for money to see that! 🙂
Also consider this, I will be dressed in Lycra, so if you make a substantial donation I promise NOT to send you a photo of me in…. the Lycra! Now there’s a thought!
Thanks in advance, Mark Keogh”

RIDE DETAILS FOR THIS WEEKEND:
Please read details in the John Cornish Tribute Ride above. Full details will be provided at the ride briefing on Saturday. Ride will be from Elwood Lifesaving Club, 7.00am briefing for a 7.15am roll out. Distances will follow your training programs.
