MOOLOOLABA TRIATHLON FESTIVAL

The iconic Mooloolaba Triathlon returned this weekend.  Located in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival has been a feature event on the Australian Triathlon Calendar.  Mooloolaba Triathlon stages a course that is famous for its ocean swim along with the electric buzz in the atmosphere as thousands of triathletes descend on this popular beach town. This year, the race was the National Championship Standard Distance Triathlon for Age Group Athletes and was worth DOUBLE POINTS to qualify for the 2018 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final.  We had 4 ladies take the trip north to compete and congratulate them all of what was a wet, windy and unpredictable QLD day!

Simone Cranage 2:31:03 (24th in AG) 24:41 swim / 1:11:32 ride / 49:03 run

Christie Emsley 2:31:37 (24th in AG) 23:58 swim / 1:15:43 ride / 47:29 run

Slaine O’Sullivan 2:36:31 (31st in AG) 28:28 swim / 1:15:25 ride / 47:08 run

Angela Mohr 3:27:10 (11th in Category) 31:00 swim / 1:32:04 ride / 1:15:55 run

Ange: Well I have done it ????was a race of two halves with the first half = total awesomeness and the second half = struggle town. Had a fantastic swim in near perfect conditions then jumped on the bike with a lovely tailwind, had good timing until I hit the turnaround then Armageddon hit, strong headwinds, rain and a drop in temperature, it had me questioning my sanity at this point. Got through it slower than I would have liked, my goal changed to just staying upright in the end. Wasn’t sure if I’d be able to even walk let alone run getting off the bike, after a few shaky steps got my groove back though and made it through the heat, humidity, sun and hills to the finish line. I set myself an overall target of 3.5 hours and came in under that, so goal achieved and now to get PB’s at future races, nap time now though. #mootri #trialliance#trainingwithpurpose

2018 JUNIOR VICTORIAN LIFESAVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

LifeSaving-Championships

More than 3,500 nippers competed in the Life Saving Victoria State Championships over the Labour day long weekend in the beautiful town of Warrnambool. Nichola and her  family made the trip down to compete in the 2-day event and came away with some outstanding results:

Swim – 6th place

Iron –  3rd place

1km Sprint –  1st place

Swim Team –  2nd place

Unfortunately, Nichola was unsuccessful in the semi finals of the Board event, after getting knocked on the head with a board!  Still some big plans in the pipelines for this young lady, so get ready to see her around…. a lot!

3 PEAKS CHALLENGE

Peaks Challenge Falls Creek is one of the greatest riding experiences your can have.  It tackles the ascents of Tawonga Gap, Mount Hotham and finally, the beast that is the back of Falls Creek.  This year, 1500 riders faced the peaks, but only those who crossed the finish line within the 13-hour deadline earn the right to proudly call themselves Peaks Challenge finishers.

Peaks Challenge Falls Creek is a 235km loop ride from Falls Creek, via Tawonga Gap, Mount Hotham and Omeo to the Back of Falls.  We had our very own Coach Scotty taking on this mighty feat over the weekend.  Huge congrats to him in completing this challenge in 10h47:53.  Many of you will know Lisa from Orca, but what you may not know is that Lisa was involved in a terrible bike/car accident just 12 months ago, which makes her achievement even more special!  She completed the challenge in 11h:38:17.  And stomping it all the way home, a special mention to Kurt Boledziuk, who killed the course coming home in 9h55:22 – what an amazing effort!  Shout out to all the friends of TA who also took on this big event.

Kurt Boledziuk 9h55:22 32:33 Tawonga / 1:50 Mt Hotham / 2:17 Falls Creek

Scott D’Aucourt 10h47:53 35:11 Tawonga / 2:08 Mt Hotham / 2:16 Falls Creek

Lisa Howard 11h38:17 36:38 Tawonga / 2:0813 Mt Hotham / 2:25 Falls Creek
