WORD FROM THE COACHES
We have had great feedback on our winter specific programs (swim, bike & run). And we look forward to seeing the results that come from these programs. Unfortunately we could not run the strength & conditioning program due to lack of numbers. Remember strength and conditioning is an important part of your training program – if you haven’t started any yet, make sure you speak to our coaches about how to integrate this into your current training program.

Review of your training so far

We are now 2 months into our winter training block, so if you don’t get your training right now it could affect the rest of your season. This time of the year is about focusing on technique while setting up a crucial base endurance, building slowly into strength. You do not need to be ‘flogging’ yourself to get the results you want. TRAIN SMARTER NOT HARDER. Remember to have a purpose for every session and keep YOUR goals in sight. Don’t worry about what other athletes are doing as every athlete is individual, with different goals, training age and limitations to consider. Stick to YOUR game plan and you will set yourself up in the best possible way for the coming season – and if ever in doubt ask questions!

Feeling tired before / during / after training? Old Injuries resurfacing? Found new injuries?
No time is a great time to be injured. Period. So you need to get onto injuries straight away. And at this time of the year you SHOULD NOT be training tired. That’s how you will guarantee to get run down and have a higher risk of injury. During winter you are more succeptable to colds/flus so play it smart. If you are trying to thrash your body at training, your immune system will also take a beating. So a few pointers:

  • Go easier on your body if you are starting to feel a cold coming on
  • Refuel your body with the RIGHT fuels. Your body needs vitamins and minerals you get from nutritious foods such as fruit, vegetables, fish, meat etc So stick to a good balanced food plan.
  • Feeling tired? Speak to a coach about your training volume. You may be going to hard too early and may risk burnout before the season ends
  • Happy with your training load but still feeling tired? Your body is not coping so you may need to modify your body maintence. This includes massage, nutrition, recovery and SLEEP.
  • REMEMBER: Our short and long course programs and there as a general training guide, every athlete however is different – the way you to respond to training AND the way you recover. If ever in doubt please speak to any of our coaches. Call us on 9645 2223.
