Exciting times ahead for Triathlon as more races fill up the triathlon calendar. During the last week there have been a number of races open up, so make sure you check them out:

If you have been frustrated on the changing of race dates in Melbourne, waiting on confirmation of race dates or simply want a race directors view on the sport, then make sure you read David Hansen’s Blog (and opinion) on triathlon. ‘From the top of my swim start ladder’. His first instalment talks about the triathlon race dates and calendar changes.

Other dates for your diary:
6 Aug – ‘Will Walker Challenge’. Who can beat Will Walker’s recorded time of 15min and 16sec for the Kinglake Climb?? Tri Alliance in conjunction with SuperSprint and Video Splits will be participating in a promo film day for the Kinglake ride and in conjunction anyone wanting to participate in the ‘Will Walker Challenge’ can attempt to time trial Kinglake and have their time recorded. Stay tuned for further details on this one!!! Note this will be incorporated into our long ride schedualed for Kinglake that weekend.
16-18 September – Apollo Bay Training Camp. All athlete abilities and race distances. 
Cost $250 for 2 nights, including training, accommodation and nutritional products. OR $150 excluding accommodation.

3-8 Jan – Falls Creek Training Camp. Designed for Long Course athletes racing in Feb, March, April, Olympic Distance and high end athletes. 3 night and 6 night option will be available. Train at altitude to gain maximum benefits!

Training Update
Next weekend we have 25 of our Long Course athletes heading down the Great Ocean Road for our second camp of the year. This camp is designed specifically for our long course athletes and is the first big jump for those competing in Busso this year.

Over the next month the programs for Half and Full Ironman (Busselton) will start to shift, as well as the build for the half and full marathon in October. So make sure you are on the right program to ensure you are getting the training in that you need. If you are a long course athlete and are not training under our long course program as yet make sure you speak to our coaches ASAP.

Our two athletes competing in Beijing World Championships this year (Dan Weekes and Geoff Taylor) will start ramping up their training also, with high end speed and threshold work, so make sure you support these guys out training, their goal is only 7 weeks away!

Run Melbourne Results
For those who were down there on Sunday, it was perfect conditions for an event, although the course was a little tough it was a great race and we had numerous athletes post PB’s or who are on track for bigger goals to come later in the year. There were 45+ Tri Alliance athletes racing with some noteable achivements included:

  • One of our newest athletes Mark Skilton posting the fastest 10km time of 37.44 and 12th in his age group.
  • The one and only Geoff Taylor winning his age group in38:26
  • Paddy Duffy posting a sub40min 10k
  • Mick Gray getting the fastest half marthon time of 1:28
  • Katee Pedicini coming well under her goal of 2hours in 1:53
  • Richard Oliver for his awesome pacing for Katee!
  • Kerri Whitney posting a PB of 1:44
  • Chris Ormston getting through nursing e knee injury
  • Marina Jurjevic and Dan Brueckner smashing out 1:36 PB’s!
  • Jen Ring posted a PB also in 1:38
  • Andy Wood-rich hitting a 1:55 in his prep for another marathon
  • Wendy Wates completing her first 5km and now super keen for more!
  • And Tara & Jussie for their outfits!

Sadly we have a couple of athletes who were unable to Run in the event due to injuries/niggles so we wish you a speedy recovery.

We took some great video footage and photo’s on the day – apologies to anyone we missed, it was hard to spot you amongst the masses of participants. The TA Running tees did make it easy though, so thanks to those who were able to wear theirs! Check out our video here and pictures here.

Post Run Dinner @ The Palmerston.

Our Thursday Night dinners are proving to be popular (as are the parma’s – Ollie, just get your own this time!) Palmerston Hotel, 51 Palmerston Cresent South Melbourne. They have fantastic specials includeing $13 pie, roast or pasta of the day, their famous parma and cheap pub drinks, you don’t have any reason NOT to come! See you there!

JULY Saturday Long Rides

This weekends Ride
This weekend we head back out to Wildwood – back of the airport. Last time we were at Wild Wood we had tough conditions. A 40km+ block head wind, tough going if you were left out by yourself! The weather is looking good so far for this weekend, with winds up to 20km/hr southeasterly. So a slight tail wind on the way out this time. So this weekend it’s time for revenge! A reminder that there are no toilets, water fountains, or food stops until Romsey – so you need to come prepared!
Meet: Cnr Oaklands And Sunbury Road, Bulla (behind the airport)
Group 1: 7.00am Strong long course Athletes only or unless advised by Coaches
Group 2
: 7.15am New Long Course Athletes (stronger riders) and more experienced Olympic/Sprint distance Athletes (strong riders)
Group 3
: 7.30am Some new Long Course Athletes and the rest of Olympic/Sprint distance Athletes (note time change for this weekend)
Group 4
: 7.30am All beginner athletes / riders and new to the squad.
Maps:
Please ensure you are all aware of the ride maps for this weekend. Groups will stay together as best as possible, however you should still be aware of where you are heading and how to get back!
Group 1 – Romsey, Mount Macedon,  Return, including the Cross 135km
Regrouping at Melbourne/Lancefield Rd, brief stop at Romsey and top of Mount Macedon, feed at Riddles Creek and home.
Group 2 – Romsey, (5km) Romsey Road Return 95km
Regrouping at Melbourne/Lancefield Rd, heading into Romsey and turning left onto the Romsey Road. Going out 5km (climbing hills) turn around and regroup at Romsey, return same way home.
Group 3 – Romsey Return 80km
Heading out at 7.30am with Group 4. Regrouping at Melbourne/Lancefield Rd, stopping/turning around at Romsey
Group 4 – Romsey/Lancefield Rd Return 50km
Heading out with Group 3 at 7.30am, turning around at Romsey Lancefield Road. Good chance for Group 4 riders to see if they are up to riding in Group 3.

Athletes Racing….

Brett Parker (our resident pilot) is Antwerp, Belgium this weekend to compete in the Antwerp 70.3 Half Ironman. He will then jet himself across to France and compete in the Alpe d’Huez short course on the 28th. Best of luck in your races OS Brett – I’m sure most of us are very jealous!

Athletes Spotted………
Kathryn Proctor recently on ‘holiday’ in France managed to squeeze in a sprint distance race with a Tri Alliance favourite Taliya ‘Talz’ Cikoja. Not a bad place for a race!

Matty Green and Juliet Davis are also travelling around France on their bikes at the moment, following the tour and clocking up some awesome km’s on the bike through the tour stages. We’re sure they are enjoying the riding and racing!

Bart & Carly continue their journey OS capturing themselves in many places including France also!
