A big week this week for Tri Alliance, as we have 19 new TRY-the-TRI Participants who have started their 6 week beginner training in preparation for their first triathlon at Elwood on 19 February. And our current group of TRY-the-TRI’s finish their 6 week course as they head into their final preparations for this weekends Race 3 at Brighton. We look forward to seeing (and cheering) for them this weekend!

Also commencing this week are our Learn to Swim and Stroke Correction Courses with one on Tuesday evenings, and two on Saturday afternoons. These programs will keep swim coach Ryan Bourke busy for the next 5 weeks! These programs have been extremely popular and have now sold out. Keep an ear out for any other programs in the future.

We also welcome onboard next week TABCORP as our first Nissan Corporate Triathlon training group who will be participating in an 8 week triathlon training program leading into the Nissan Corporate triathlon, and KRAFT who commence in a couple of weeks time. BUSY time of the year for Tri Alliance and triathlon in general!!

The Falls Creek Altitude Training Camp last week was a great success and a massive training boost for all those athletes who attended. You can read about the hard training athletes were put through here. Tri Alliance is holding a second altitude training camp leading into the Falls Creek race early February – ideal for either pre race preparation for the race OR a training spike for those racing Melbourne or New Zealand. Click here to read more and to express your interest.

The Summer Training Camp at Queenscliffe / Point Lonsdale was a massive hit, with 23 athletes and our Coahces Stan and Darren heading up the camp, with Katee assistnig and Evalin even showing everyone she has some great skills with bikes! This camp exceeded everyone’s expectations, and the Summer Olympics on the Sunday were a massive hit! Well done to:

  • Steve Hollingsworth for winning the JC Award for the fastest bike tyre change in a sleak time of 2:15mins – would put most of us to chame!!
  • The winning ‘Summer Olympics Team’ Steve Hollingsworth, Sally Clements and Alison Wertsuk. Well done guys on being the Inaugural winners!!

Lorne Pier to Pub – is always a big event and was again held on the weekend. Well done to all athletes who participated in this fantatsic event.

SHOUT OUTS AND GET WELLS……

  • Goodbye and goodluck to Alison Faulkner who leaves for a 6-12 month stay in Canada. Alison has been with the squad over the last 12 months and has had a rough time, being diagnosed with chronic fatique and then a a car accident which have both left her with limited training at times. But with her sheer determination and support from her family (did we also mention she lives in Woodend?) she made it back to training and continued to put in 100% in every session. Best of luck Alison – we trust you will have a great time over there and welcome you back when you return home! 🙂
  • Ariel Grana had a bike accident at our recent camp, and is now sporting a bruised and sore body. He is having scans this week to see the damage in his AC joint – fingers crossed the news is good and he is back on the bike soon!
  • Welcome back to Geoff Taylor – who made his first appearance at training last night after a bike accident late last year left him on the sidelines. Geoff is back on light training (so if you see him doing anymore than that let us know!) 😉 but is a welcome addition back into the training group as we get him slowly back into  training. Look forward to seeing you around again Geoff!!!
  • Coach Mick Ryan is recovering well from his recent ankle operation before Christmas. The surgery turned out to be a little more than expected, with the surgen having to reconstruct his ‘dodgy’ ankle having wrecked his medial and lateral ligaments, and sporting limited cartlidge, then they then decided to break a bone to (somehow) ‘help’ the receovery process. 🙂 He now sports a nice moon boot for the next few months, but should be able to get back into the pool and coaching in the next few weeks. So keep an eye out for him at a session soon!
  • The TA Vehicle…. Also had an accident at our camp, with a motor cyclists coming down the mountain and the TA car heading up. The motor vehicle lost control heading into a sharp corner, which left his bike careering into the TA Car. Thankfully all persons were relatively un-injured (the motor cyclists walked away with barely a scratch!) but the poor TA vehicle was left stranded on the side of the road and has to be towed back to Melbourne for assessment. So will be noticable absent over the next few weeks. In replacement is a big robust Hertz Van! 🙂
