NEWS THIS WEEK…..

What an absolutely amazing day yesterday for our squad at the last race of the Gatorade/Active Feet Tri Series. As coaches to stand back and watch you all cross the finish line, cheer on the sidelines, pat each other on the back and enjoy the moment is an absolute pleasure to be a part of. It is you – every one of our athletes that makes our squad what it is. What a great way to finish the series. And to top it off, a great night out with the team too!! Well done to each and every one of you. You make what we do an amazing experience.

Celebrating Greg's Podium finish

A big thank you also goes to athletes Sarah Pietraszek-Mattner and Heather Abbott for volunteering their time to assist in Marshalling at the race on Sunday. Your time and effort is very much appreciated!

A full race report and photo’s will be available later this week.

Even though this was the last race of the Series in Melbourne, there is still plenty of other races we have athletes competing in, including the Mooloolaba Olympic Distance Triathlon in QLD this weekend. Good luck to the following athletes:

Dan Weekes, Geoff Taylor, Brianna Scarlett, Margaret Mielczarek, Brett Archbold, Sandii Douglas. (if you are racing and your name is not here, please let Sarah know)

A reminder that Coaches Ollie & Sarah will be away overseas from Monday 4 April – Monday 2 May. During this time we will be un-contactable, however John and Emma will be holding the forte, and can assist you with your needs. Our other coaches will also be on deck at a number of the training sessions. Only in an emergency will John contact us – we will not have access to email or phone calls, so please be mindful of this. We appreciate that for some this may not be good timing if you are still racing, however as you can appreciate coaches need some time off too! John and Emma are both extremely knowledgeable so you will be left in good hands!!

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST ATHLETES

This week we welcome a number of new athletes into our squad.

Patrick Duffy – trained with ‘Run Ride Run’ a few years ago so may be a familiar face to some of you. He has just moved back from a stint OS so looking forward to getting back into training!

Emily Hosken – a young girl with some real talent. Emily completed our Race 5 Try-the-Tri group and is now continuing training with us. She also recently won the Elwood Lifesaving Club Championships, so well done Emily!

Sonia Gregoul – completed her first Tri on the weekend through our Try-the-Tri group and LOVED it! Challenged with juggling a family Sonia is looking forward to what else is in store!

Emily Minton – completed her first Tri in Elwood and has been ‘waiting’ for hubby Des to complete his first on Sunday so they can both continue training together.

Des Minton – did super well in his first race on Sunday and keen to get stuck into some more training with his wife with our squad!

Lee Antczek – also a first time triathlete on Sunday and you couldn’t wipe the smile off his face! Another one now ‘hooked’ on triathlons!

Ryan Bourke – you may have seen Ryan up on the podium on Sunday. In the fast age group of 20-24, Ryan has won every race in Melbourne since moving here late last year from QLD. An all round competitor and athlete with a fast swim, super bike and solid run. His next goal being his first Olympic Distance in Byron Bay in May – look out for a fast time here!

So please join us in welcoming each of our new athletes – we look forward to working closely with you towards your goals over the coming weeks and months!

MY JOURNEY TO IRONMAN…. Jonathan Cahill

My name is Jonathan Cahill and I guess I’m Tri Alliances only Tasmanian athlete!

I first started competing in Triathlons back in the early 80s in the real hey day of triathlon.

We competed on steel / aluminium framed bikes, raced in our budgie smugglers, used vey basic aero bars and wore the original Oakley sunglasses, we drank Exceed and I don’t thing there was any such thing as gels. We were cool!

My first stint doing Triathlons was for about 10 years competing locally in sprint and Olympic distance races with moderate age group success and I even competed in the Aust Triathlon Championships at Geelong in the Brad Bevan days.

I always had in the back of my mind that I wanted to do an Ironman but dismissed it as not really having the time to train for it. I eventually burnt myself out after training twice a day 6 days a week. On reflection most of my training back then was done in what I call the grey area! CLICK HERE to read Jonathan’s story.
