Welcome to Meet the TA Family. In this series, we take a closer look at the incredible individuals that form the backbone of our triathlon squad. Beyond the rigorous training sessions and the thrill of racing, it’s about connecting on a personal level, building relationships, and embracing the camaraderie that makes us more than just a team.  Meet the TA Family is an opportunity for us to celebrate not only the athlete within, but the person behind the sport.

What initially inspired you to join TA and how has the experience been so far?

Well, to be honest, my cousin and I signed up for a 70.3 following a bet, then realised we needed a bit of help training for it, hence joining TA. Since my first day training with the club, everyone has been nothing but welcoming, friendly and helpful. You rock up to each session with so many friendly faces, happy to catch up, whilst also working hard to complete the session and working towards various goals!

Can you share a bit about your background and how it has shaped your journey in sports and fitness?
So, I’ve probably played or attempted most of the sports there are. My background is mainly netball and rowing. However, have also done a lot of swimming, water polo and athletics growing up. I’ve always loved keeping fit and busy, but also loved and appreciated the social and community aspect sport brings. Moving to Melbourne from QLD in 2020, and then Covid hitting, I drifted away from the rowing club I joined here and decided I needed another sport to fill my spare time with, and Triathlons it was. I was never a runner, or much of a rider however have always loved swimming, so being able to navigate and get better at three different sports was the perfect next challenge for me.

How do you manage to balance your training commitments with your professional and personal life?
Hahaha, not sure to be honest! I’ve always been someone who over commits because I love keeping busy but am a pretty organised person.

It has been ingrained in me since I was little so I’m pretty good at leaving the house at 5am and getting home at 9pm having packed everything I’ll need the night before! I typically write my week out, work then training and weave my social activities around that.

Share a quirky or unique talent that most people wouldn’t know about you.
I’m actually very good at directions! The Thailand crew are aware and can support this.

If you could have a conversation with any professional athlete, past or present, who would it be and why?
I would absolutely love to sit down with Paula Findlay or Ashleigh Gentle. Both are amazing athletes, but also seem like such genuine people to have a chat with! I think I would learn so much from either of them.
