- TRAINING SESSION UPDATES
It has been great to see and feel the motivation coming through from our athletes who have been watching a wide range of Sports at the Rio Olympics over the past 2 weeks. This built up to the men’s and women’s Triathlon events last week on the famous Copacabana Beach. While the Aussies did not quite get into the medals is was great to see them out there pushing hard giving us age groupers the motivation and nudge that we need to strive in our own ambitions.
Listening to many of the athletes across the games it is the pinnacle of their sport and something that they strive for year after year to make that team. Also evident was the humility if their race didn’t got to plan – so have a think about your goals, races and training and see what Olympic traits you can put into them. You may be striving to be standing on that podium one day or going for a pb so use the past 2 weeks seeing what is possible and what can be done with plenty of hard work and determination.
We have found the games very inspiring across the board and hope this translates to all our athletes in their work ethic, performance and mojo in the coming months.
PERSONALISED COACHING AND ATHLETE MENTORING
We have had a number of athletes already take up our personalised and mentoring spots so if you want to spend more time with a coach, have specific requirements or just want to have a mentor for your training and racing read below on how this is all possible within the squad.
TRAINING CAMPS UPDATE
It is with regret that we have had to cancel our pre-season camp in Queenscliff due to insufficient numbers to meet the minimum requirements. There was plenty of interest but not enough athletes had made a committed booking or deposit with this being the first time in our history that it’s been cancelled. We will be contacting those who have paid already to organise their refund.
However we are pleased to announce that our Falls Creek Camp is open to all levels of athlete and has been expanded offering more than ever this year. The camp running from the 26th December 2016 until the 6th of January 2017 offers a minimum of 3 nights with accommodation at either Falls Creek or Bright from $99 per night including training. After very successful camps in conjunction with Enduranceteam we will again be teaming up with the guys for another action packed time. If you are interested in putting your name down and reserving your spot please drop us an email stating your preferred location and dates before this camp fills up. [email protected]
ST MICHAEL’S SWIMS
Due to recent low athlete numbers at our St Michael’s swim squad sessions we have taken the difficult decision to stop these sessions from next week (last swim at St Michael’s is Wednesday 24th August) until the beginning of summer when the demand returns. The last session will be this Wednesday at 7pm. If you have queries, concerns or feedback regard this please do contact us via email or calling the office.
Athletes are able to instead come along to the appropriate sessions at MSAC so please check the timetable details below.
TIMETABLE UPDATES
Remember this week is recovery week so no coached ride around Albert Park on Thursday morning. Use this for recovery – you deserve it.
This Saturday’s rides will be along Beach Road from Elwood at the later time of 7am with the advanced guys doing some hills out the back of Frankston to Humphries Rd and Mount Eliza.
The MSAC pools are undergoing some maintenance in September so some of our Wednesday evening sessions will not be running – we will however have additional space on a Wednesday morning so you can still get your swim in. Full details will be in next weeks newsletter when this is confirmed. Apologies for the inconvenience this may cause but it is unfortunately beyond our control.
Please can athletes arrive on time and be ready for the start of each session. If you miss the beginning you may miss important information regards the session, the warm-up and briefing. This can also disrupt other athletes who have arrived on time and begun their session already. Please do ensure you check the timetable and our Victorian Facebook page for training sessions and updates.

Remember the coaches are there for you so do use them. Ask them questions at sessions and learn from their experience to help you become a better athlete. If they do not know the answer (they don’t always know everything!) they will find out and let you know increasing your and their knowledge at the same time.
3. SUPPLEMENTS AND BANNED SUBSTANCES
There has been plenty of noise in and around the sporting world recently with regards banned substances and sports supplements so please take a few minutes to read through the below as it is very important for you. Testing is coming more popular even in age group racing so know the facts about what you put in your body.
This is more urgent for those competing at a world championship this year but just as important for you all to read. No mistakes can be made with this stuff. Its black and white.
We know a lot of athletes take supplements etc as part of their every day routine but you need to know what you are putting in your body for your own health. Everything.
If you are taking prescribed medications, supplements, protein, whatever it is please check it. Here is a link here to global dro. http://www.globaldro.com/AU/search
This is the ASADA recommended search program for all medications/supplements. Open it up, go to Search and punch in the name of your meds or supplements. This will tell you if you can take in or out of competition or both.
Please be especially careful with supplements. None are “allowed” there are always items in supplements that are banned, it is not well policed through the production process and all ingredients do not have to be listed on the product by law.
If you are not sure do not take it!! simple as that.
Informed sport is a 3rd party testing agency, the best guide as to what supplements are “best” to use, but its still recommended to use with extreme caution as batches change for all products. http://www.informed-sport.com
Please also read through all the supplement info here: http://www.ausport.gov.au/ais/nutrition Know the classifications.
Remember, Knowledge is power, don’t be loose with this stuff.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, AS COACHES AND TRI-ALLIANCE AS A BUSINESS HAS A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY WITH THIS STUFF. THERE ARE NO EXCUSES.
With the Olympics done and dusted and race season getting ever closer be sure to get your motivation set by entering your goal races and setting those dates. Many athletes are now sorted and focused on their goals so be part of it and get signed up. Please use the below links to ensure you are registered as a Tri-Alliance Club member. NOOSA AND BUSSO FACEBOOK GROUPS – PLEASE JOIN IF RACING
Even though we are in the midst of winter, planning and training is already underway for some of the first races in the 2016 season. We have created Facebook groups for both Noosa (OD race on Sunday 30th October) and Ironman WA and Ironman 70.3 WA (Sunday 4th December). We will be communicating through these groups all things race related so if you have entered either of these please request to join up. This will also help you know who else is training for those races and enable crew to train together in preparation.
Busso – https://www.facebook.com/groups/505282309666777/
Noosa – https://www.facebook.com/groups/144904282601330/
If you are requiring accommodation for Noosa the Tri-Alliance house has 3 single beds spare so please ping us an email at [email protected] if you’d like more information or to snag one of these.
Please ensure you check the calendar regularly to know where and when sessions are as they do sometimes change (this is especially true for swim sessions at MSAC as these can change and are often unfortunately beyond our control). Please ensure you check your program or consult a coach so you attend the appropriate session and that you know your distances – remember you are accountable too!. When out riding please do so safely and pay attention to all the road rules and others using the road. Read on for a guide to cycling etiquette and bike road safety and ethics.
- Saturday 27th August – Long Rides
- All riders to roll from Elwood along Beach Road with Coaches Ollie, Greg and Jed at 7am. Advanced Riders to add Humphries Road and Mount Eliza loop. Check your programs for distances.
- A gentle reminder that key to enjoying these long rides and getting the most from them is to dress adequately for the conditions and ensure that you fuel and hydrate before and during the ride so energy levels do not drop too much on the last bit. Correct recovery afterwards is also very important.
- Sunday 28th August – MSAC Run @8am, Fairfield Run @8am
When riding on a Tri-Alliance coached road ride it is a requirement to wear team colours. This helps keep and identify the group together and provides more safety in the fact that other riders from outside the group are less likely to join in the group – we do not know them or their riding abilities.
