1. WORD FROM THE COACHES

SAFETY ON OUR ROADS

We start this week with a message regards safety on the roads after a number of separate accidents last week involving our athletes. Unfortunately three team members ended up in hospital, two being discharged with bumps and bruises but a third has spent a number of days in and has had an operation to fix broken bones with another still to be scheduled.

This is not meant to scare but to serve as a reminder to respect the roads, share with all users and to be predictable in your use whilst riding. We want to enforce a rule of large group rides being no more than 15 strong and splitting where appropriate if this becomes too large. This is not just the responsibility of the coaches but we want to empower athletes to do this as and when they see fit whilst out riding. We also require all athletes on Tri-Alliance group rides to be wearing team kit to distinguish and provide identification to other users that we are riding together as well as making the ride safer in that others do not just jump in.

With that said it was great to see the network of support during and after the incidents and athlete thoughts being posted. We know that this was very much appreciated by those involved and shows the true team spirit we have in the club even in adversity.

We wish those injured a speedy recovery and hope to see you at training as soon as you have recovered if not before to say hi.

RACE RESULTS

In happier news we had a great set of results down at the sufferfest event in Warnambool with athletes racing across Half, Olympic and Sprint Distances.

  • Malise S – 3rd Female Open Category (Half)
  • Pam T – 2nd in AG (Half)
  • Andy W – 7th in AG (Half)
  • Fik S – 4th in AG (Olympic)
  • Megan C – 1st in AG and 3rd Female Overall (Sprint)

We also had a good number of crew racing in the Corporate Triathlon at Elwood some racing for their companies or being asked to help out as a new recruit! The day was short sharp and fast with some great training/racing preparation for upcoming races. Great to see so much Tri-Alliance out on the course and well done to all those who took part.

Race News

Portarlington is this weekend with the iconic pier being central to the event though with a swim course change likely something different for everyone racing. The scenic swim ride run is an athletes favourite and with it being a long weekend there is more time to celebrate post race.

For those coming down on Friday or very early Saturday we will be running our pre race session at the race venue from 730am. This will then be followed by helping SME360 with transition set up and getting the TA Taj up for your use come Sunday morning.

Our normal post race BBQ will take place at 2pm (location tbc) giving time for a little recovery and pack-up before celebrating as long as you want with many spending Sunday night in Portarlington and not working Monday. Food will be provided but BYO drinks.
