WORD FROM THE COACHESMSAC Swim
Things are starting to heat up on the training front – just as the weather starts to get colder!

We have had a great start to our Beginner Transition Triathlon Swim Session on Tuesday Mornings so far. This session is aimed at assisting athletes improve their swimming in a smaller group environment and Coaches Ryan and Des will be heading up these sessions. So if you are a beginner swimmer – make sure you get along. 6.00am Tuesday Mornings, MSAC.

Our double session Tuesday/Thursday’s are back, which means we have more sessions on offer. So whether you do the double session, or come along to the morning sessions because you can’t do evenings, either way – make sure you get along. Remember – the hardest part is making the decision the get out of bed, the rest will take care of itself. So be organised, plan the night before and set your alarm. Make the decision to commit and you will.

In regards to our Tuesday Night Windtrainer sessions – these are becoming more popular with over 40 athletes attending this session. Tri Alliance only have a limited number of windtrainers to hire (approx 15) and so if you don’t have one, we cannot guarantee there will be one available when you arrive. If you have been considering purchasing a windtrainer, now might be a good time to start looking to ensure your training isn’t interrupted. Bicycles Inc have provided a deal (included below) on purchasing a new windtrainer – make sure you check it out or contact them about any other options they may have for you.

In July we will be adding another session to our training timetable – Monday Night beginner run sessions at Albert Park. So keep an eye out for details on this. The July Training Timetable will be updated this week.

In preparation for the Solomon Trail Run at Studley Park next weekend, all runs THIS SUNDAY will be from Fairfield Boathouse. Great chance to familiarise yourself with trail running, and build your strength and endurance in the hills. Stronger athletes = faster athletes! We’ll finish the run with a group breakfast post run at the Fairfield Boathouse – and all reports from the local athletes say it’s worth coming to!

SOLOMON TRAIL RUN – STUDLEY PARK, NEXT WEEKEND
Sunday 30 June is the first Race of the Solomon Trail Run Series. This event is scheduled as part of our training that weekend, with distances to suit all levels – 5km, 11km and 15km. We recommend all athletes put this event on their calendar and why not encourage some of your friends/family to join in our come along and watch. We will have the TA TAJ at the venue and breaky afterwards.

UPCOMING TRIATHLON TRAINING CAMPS
We are in the final planning stages of our remaining triathlon training camps for the 2013/2014 season – so stay tuned for details to come. With the amazing feedback we received from our Winter Triathlon Training Camp, we’ve set a high bench mark this year and we can’t wait to outline what we have in store!

OLD TRI GEAR WANTED Coach Ray Pic
Tri Alliance Queensland Coach Ray is lending a hand to the Samoan Community (his birth place) on getting people into the sport of triathlon. And this is where you can help. Coach Ray is looking for any old tri gear or swimming toys etc that you may have lying around but no longer use – and could go to a good home to kids in Somoa. He is sending a few boxes back home next week, so if you have anything you would like to donate, please bring and give to Sarah this Thursday PM run session at The Tan, or Sunday’s Run at Fairfield.

BEST WISHESChris Ormston
Our well wishes are being sent to a favourite Tri Alliance athlete Chris Ormston and his equally popular wife Genevieve. They made the tough decision to leave Melbourne to board the plane back to Perth for 6 odd months before Chris takes up a role in Germany. A fantastic opportunity for them both, but a big loss for the Tri Alliance Family.
The guys enjoyed a night out on the town last Friday Night as their last hooray, and we hear that the dance floor was rocking until all hours of the morning!
We wish you both all the happiness and hopefully see you racing in Europe at some stage Chris! 🙂

SAN FRANSISCO MARATHONSan Fran Mara
A big congratulations to Juliet Vermeulen on finishing her 5th Marathon at the San Fransisco Marathon on the weekend in a time of 3:52 – beating her goal time of 4hours. ‘I officially never want to see another hill in my life!‘- Juliet posted after her race.
For anyone who has been to San Fran, you will know and feel Juliet’s pain – the city is far from flat!

Well done Jules on a top effort, enjoy the rest of your break with Peet and see you both when you return for your build to Ironman Western Australia!

LONG COURSE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS RACE REPORTAdam Murone
By Adam Murone
On arrival into France about 5 days prior to the race, the weather was fine, sunny and 18C and the countryside was beautiful.  Belfort is in the North East of France near the Swiss border and T-Shirt and shorts only required once arriving on the train. After settling into the Australian Team hotel, I quickly worked out that the weather was highly changeable and the forecast for the next 4 days leading up to the race was cold and wet, maximum temperatures around 9C – 11C and rain on most days.  Things just got interesting…. Click here to continue reading…
