Welcome to Meet the TA Family. In this series, we take a closer look at the incredible individuals that form the backbone of our triathlon squad. Beyond the rigorous training sessions and the thrill of racing, it’s about connecting on a personal level, building relationships, and embracing the camaraderie that makes us more than just a team. Meet the TA Family is an opportunity for us to celebrate not only the athlete within, but the person behind the sport.
What inspired you to start doing triathlons?
I moved to Melbourne last year and decided I wanted more versatility in my training and to try something new. I also found a great group of friends who do triathlons so it naturally came together!
What’s your favourite discipline: swimming, biking, or running? Why?
Running is my favourite, but maybe just because I have been doing it for the longest… I love running as it is social, relatively low cost and I can run when I travel so it’s a great way to get to know an area.
Do you have any specific goals for this season?
Have fun and don’t get injured
What other sports or activities do you enjoy outside of triathlon?
Does napping count? I like exploring Melbourne (as I am still relatively new to the city), getting out to the market and into the city with friends – and being at the beach in summer!
What is your go-to post-race treat?
Back in New Zealand I would devour an orange flavoured “Fruju” (ice block) after every long training session or race. I am yet to find a good Australian alternative, so open to suggestions.
What is your next race or big event?
Busselton Ironman
What’s your favourite local training spot?
Beach road of course!
Do you prefer solo training or group sessions?
I always thought I was a solo training kinda gal, but I think joining the tri club may make me a convert!
Who is your biggest supporter or role model in the sport?
Lucy Charles-Barclay!
If you could compete in any triathlon/ event anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would love to do some of the world major marathons, or some trail running ultras in New Zealand.
