GREAT OCEAN ROAD RUNNING FESTIVAL
More than 7,500 participants turned out over the weekend for Victoria’s iconic Great Ocean Road Running Festival across Apollo Bay and Lorne. The two day festival of running offered people of all ages and abilities the choice of seven distances from the Great Ocean Road Walk to the 1.5km Kids’ Gallop, all the way up to the 60km Ultra Marathon. Other activities that were a hit with participants over the weekend included wellness yoga sessions and dual kite festivals in Lorne and Apollo Bay, while food lovers turned out for the Frank Camorra lunch at the Lorne Hotel. Next year’s Great Ocean Road Running Festival will take place on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May 2019. Registrations will be open soon.
We had two athletes take on the 23km Half Distance – Michelle Grocock completing the course in 2:24:00 and Georgina Mervin in 1:41:47, finishing 1st in her AG by just over 7 mins and 11th female overall!!!
TRIATHLON VICTORIA STATE SERIES AWARDS
The 2018 Triathlon Victoria Annual Awards were presented at the Annual Awards Breakfast on Sunday 20th May at Sandringham Yacht Club in celebration of the 2017/18 triathlon season.
The Awards function provided the triathlon community (members, friends and families) the opportunity to celebrate and recognise those who have made significant contributions or achieved outstanding results in 2017/18 (athletes, officials, coaches, volunteers and clubs).
The celebration included the presentation of the 2017/18 Victorian Triathlon State Series Champions, Triathlon Victoria Awards and featured guest speaker Dr Bridie O’Donnell, the Head of the Office for Women in Sport & Recreation and former professional cyclist.
We would like to send a HUGE congratulations to Sheridan Brown for convincingly winning the Female 40-44 Victorian State Series Award. Her consistency, hard-work and smart racing has certainly paid off this season and has been capped off with selection into the Australian team for the AG World Champs in QLD later in the year.
Kudos also goes to Monty Cooper for 3rd place in the Male 16 – 19 category and Barry Gilbertson for 3rd place in the Male 60 – 64 category.
