WORD FROM THE COACHES
We have seen most athletes now slowly start getting back into a normal training routine after enjoying a good few weeks down time to refresh both the mind and body. An important part of the training program.

Remember that when you do start to get back into training, your body will take time to adjust to exercise/training again, so leave the garmins at home and simply jump on the bike or pull on the runners and go by feel. Don’t stress about pace or time – your body will tell you how it feels – not the watch.1000 Steps

The April fun continued last week – and the weekends activities proved challenging and we imagine some athletes had sore legs on Monday! Saturday’s ride was a treat with 5 coaches on deck and a very windy ride home. Everyone should be pleased with themselves especially the few who completed their longest ride ever!! Sunday was our infamous 1000 steps session and Darren certainly delivered. We had a perfect cool and dry day and athletes managed between 1 and 4 rounds of the steps running and walking. Mountain goat Glen showed us all how it’s done and Kona bound Nathan Sims used son Joshua for some added weight training. Following a solid morning of working out athletes were treated to a gourmet BBQ breakfast at the Schonewille residence with gorgeous hostess’ Kylie and baby Emma. In case you missed it we had yoghurt pots, croissants, lollies, bacon, eggs & hash browns. Thanks goes to Ellie for making everyone coffee to order too!

TA QLD held a fantastic camp in Noosa (we could think of worse places to have a camp!) including plenty of training and an exclusive chat with current Ironman World Champion Pete Jacobs. All athletes are looking right on track for a fantastic race in 6 weeks time. Click here to check out pics from the Training Camp.

IRONMAN AUSTRALIA – PORT MACQUARIE – SUNDAY 5 MAY
Best of luck to Charlie Nathan, Jeremy Williamson and Tim French with this weekends Ironman Australia in PortMacquarie on Sunday. The race kicks off with the Pro’s at 6.45am, with the age groupers following closely after. This race is a tough course, with a rough and at times hilly bike course taking th stong out of your legs. However the run follows the coast line and has one of the best town supportered events. So even though they won’t have the squad support like Melbouorne, our boys will know they will have many others out on course and will know we are all cheering them on from home.
Charlie Nathan #106, 25-29M
Jeremey Williamson #318, 30-34M
Tim(othy) French #194, 30-34M
We also wish athlete Paul ‘Irish’ O’Dowd #264, 30-34M all the best with his race.
We’ll be cheering you all on boys. Stick to your race plans, and hang in when the going gets tough! Click here for more on the race.

BUSSELTON HALF IRONMAN
Tri Alliance has just one athlete this year taking on the Busselton Half Ironman next Saturday 11 May. Best of luck to online athlete Janelle Cook on her first Half Ironman. Janelle has been training very consistently with the help of Coach Sarah and we look forward to cheering her on from Melbourne – good luck Janelle!  Click here for more on the event.

HAWAII HALF IRONMAN
David Nealon takes on the Hawaii Half for the second time this year – an amazing but tough location to take on a Half – made all the more harder when most others are taking it easy and the weather is getting colder here. So best of luck Dave in your final weeks of training leading into the race in June. Click here for more on the event.

TRI ALLIANCE WELCOMES NEW STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH
Tri Alliance Victoria welcomes Kemble Edelsten to the coaching team as our Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Kemble is a highly qualified specialist in the fields of corrective posture and conditioning for sports performance. He holds university qualifications including a Bachelor of Teaching /Physical Education and a Graduate Degree in Sports Science.Kemble

A multiple Ironman Hawaiian finisher, Kemble has again qualified for Kona in 2013, posting a 4:35 bike split in Ironman Melbourne. With preparation severely disrupted by a serious neck injury sustained in 2012, he went about developing strength and conditioning programs based primarily in the gym. Focusing on postural strength and function, he was able to rehabilitate his injury whilst building exceptional core strength that translated to explosive power on the bike and run.
Stay tuned over the coming weeks to find out how Kemble can help increase your performance.
