WORD FROM THE COACHES
We are fast approaching the last few races of the season – where did the season go?! Over winter it seems a long time for the season to come around, and then when it’s here it seems to fly by before you know it! Most weekends for the remainder of the season we have athletes racing in some capacity. Last weekend there were athletes racing in Davenport, Sprint at Sandringham and the Big Bay Swim. This weekend Ironman Melbourne Athletes Andy Wood-Rich and Dean Hawkins head to Warrnambool for a pre-race hit out at  Sufferfest – a long course race 2/80/20. Lets hope their races are more enjoyable than the name suggests! 🙂 Ryan Bourke is also heading to Sydney for the NSW state sprint champs. So best of luck to these boys.

Next week is recovery week – however we will still be holding Tuesday and Thursday AM run sessions for our Ironman Melbourne and Portatlington Long Course Athletes. Please ensure you check out training timetable.

PORTARLINGTON RACE ACCOMMODATION
We have ONE SPOT FREE in our group accommodation in Portarlington for the race on Sunday 17 March!  If you haven’t organised yourself a bed, email [email protected] ASAP!

DAVENPORT AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC DISTANCE CHAMPS
We had a small but strong team head to Davenport for the Australia Olympic Distance champs and another chance for these athletes to claim points for their bid for the Age Group World Championships in London later this year. Congratulations to:

  • Geoffrey Taylor winning his age group by nearly 3min and reclaiming his Aus title.
  • Lisa Dominguez backing up after her impressive Geelong win to place 2nd in F30-34, less than 2min behind the winner.
  • Sheridan Brown finishing 7th in F35-39 Great effort getting back on the bike after her accident in Geelong, well done Sher!
  • Jill Sultan claiming more points to her name also finishing 7th in her age group.

Well done team – London here we come! 🙂

BIG BAY SWIM
The Big Bay Swim is a 3.2km open water swim from Port Melbourne to Williamstown and was not without a little ‘excitement’ this year. The race delayed due to a cargoe ship and swimmers then had to ‘enjoy’ swarms of Jelly Fish.
“Choppy as you expect in the channel but not going to get a much better day for it. Jellyfish the size of basketballs… First one caught me off guard!” 🙂 Mick Ryan
Well done to our athletes out there.

  • Lidia Ursini had been working hard on her swim this season and the hard work has paid off. She had a goal of sub 1hour (last year did 1:06) and she smashed that, finishing in 57:51 AND came THIRD in her category! Well done Lids, a fantastic effort to cap off a great start to 2013.
  • Mick Ryan has been unlucky with injuries again this year. But that doesn’t mean the boy can’t swim. Finishing in 42:43, FIFTH in his category and 29th overall. Not a bad effort against some solid open water swimmers!
  • Natalie Methven also shows the rest of us she can swim finishing the 3.2km in 47:30, FIFTH in her category and 9th female overall. Top work Nat!
