2XU TRIATHLON RACE #3 – ST KILDA

Ok, so that’s 3 from 3 2XU Triathlon Series races where Melbourne’s weather had been somewhat….unpredictable?!?  Lucky our athletes are so adaptable that a little change in details doesn’t phase them!  We all thought the rain that blew in Saturday would keep moving and things would go ahead as planned.  Cue rain, rain and more rain, followed by dirty drains emptying into the bay…..YUCK!  Common sense prevailed and at 5am the decision was made to turn this triathlon into a duathlon.  Initial shock (and some celebrations for our runners!) over and it was down to business.

Tri Alliance had 60 athletes racing across all categories, so there was a strong presence of blue and yellow out on course all day long.  We had several first timers hitting both the Fun and Sprint tris, those looking for series points in the Sprint races, those using the OD as a hit out on their way to Geelong 70.3 and even the Aquabike was repped as an alternative to having to run (ermmm…that maybe wasn’t quite the case this time!).  Congrats to all on getting out there, getting the job done and working towards those goals you have set for yourself.  Once again, we were bursting with pride watching all of you cross that finish line.

Thank you to those who came down to cheer on our team.  It’s such a great part of our squad that we all rally behind each other and support one another.  For an individual sport, it’s so nice being part of the TA Team.    A big thank you to those who volunteered to help over the weekend.  The TA Taj went up and down like a dream with the help of so many people, the kids truly appreciate those who pointed them in the right direction, carried their bikes or helped them clip on their helmet, and the chefs (Brendan & Phil) who worked that BBQ like a boss and had us all fed and happy at the end of the day – THANK YOU!!!

Well done to those athletes who headed down the coast to take on the Pier to Pub swim event in Lorne on Saturday.  Looked like great fun and always good to be part of such an amazing event.
