Welcome to Meet the TA Family. In this series, we take a closer look at the incredible individuals that form the backbone of our triathlon squad. Beyond the rigorous training sessions and the thrill of racing, it’s about connecting on a personal level, building relationships, and embracing the camaraderie that makes us more than just a team.  Meet the TA Family is an opportunity for us to celebrate not only the athlete within, but the person behind the sport.

What initially inspired you to join TA and how has the experience been so far?

Being part of a team with like-minded individuals who share the goal of excelling is what has inspired me the most to join TA. I have thoroughly enjoyed this journey, as every completed session carries a purpose, and I greatly respect how each coach remains present until the last person in the training session finishes before departing.

How do you manage to balance your training commitments with your professional and personal life?

I am a strong advocate of Google Calendar. Every aspect of my life, including social events, bill payments, and training schedules, must be organized within it to ensure my commitment to my goals. I have become more comfortable with asserting the word “NO” compared to my previous tendency to always say “YES.”

Triathlon often requires mental strength. How do you stay motivated and push through challenges?

I firmly advocate two quotes: “Never Give Up” and “Go One More.” My motivation stems from visualizing the indescribable sensation that awaits me as I cross the finish line of a specific event. This sensation propels me to give my utmost effort, regardless of whether it’s a good or challenging day.

Is there a specific race or event that holds a special place in your heart? What makes it memorable?

I currently don’t have a specific race that holds a special place in my heart. However, I am confident that completing the Melbourne 70.3 will become that significant achievement. I firmly remember two years ago when multiple surgeons informed me that due to the extent of my shoulder injury, I wouldn’t be able to engage in any sport involving my upper limb, and over time, my condition might worsen. As someone who refuses to accept “no” as an answer, I am determined to demonstrate the incredible power of the mind. I firmly believe that crossing the finish line of this event will be an immensely rewarding accomplishment. I eagerly anticipate the moment when I can reach out to the surgeon and share the news of what I have achieved.

If you could have a conversation with any professional athlete, past or present, who would it be and why?

Kristian Blummenfelt is someone whom I would absolutely love to have a conversation with. His work ethic, unwavering dedication to his sport, and his lighthearted yet positive attitude are all qualities that greatly inspire me. Engaging in a conversation with him would be a fantastic opportunity to learn from his experiences and gain insights into his mindset and approach to his athletic journey.

Triathlon involves three different disciplines. Is there one you particularly enjoy or find more challenging?

I find swimming to be the most challenging discipline. As a naturally competitive person, the delayed onset effects of swimming tend to affect me mentally. While I am aware of my capabilities considering my injury, there’s always an underlying desire within me to continuously improve. Despite the challenges, I am fully committed to never giving up, and I will show up and give my best effort in every session.
